Giraffes

Giraffes

The focus for this group has changed.  The students in this group are reading beautifully!  They have a good grasp on decoding unknown words, and their fluency has become great as well!  Our primary focus during group time will be on comprehension.  The students are learning how to go back to their stories to locate answers to questions.  They are also learning to use context clues and their background knowledge to gain a deeper meaning for the stories they are reading.

Suggestions for Practice at Home:
  • Take a look at the stories your child is reading.  When your child finishes a story, ask him to tell you what happened.  Students are at a point where they should be able to summarize what they have read.
  • Ask your child specific questions about the story they have read.  Tell them to find the answer in the story and show you where they found it.
